Jill knew that she had to do something special when her mom Rosemary Sorce turned 92. And that is exactly what she managed to do with the help of her husband, Wade. The two created ‘The Blessing Bike’ to the old lady which she thoroughly deserved.
Rosemary has always loved going out on bike rides but with age it obviously became risky and she had to cut down.
However, thanks to her family, she can ride happily again. The bike has a comfortable and safe front seat. It is steered from a traditional bike seat at the back, operated by another person. The two-seater is tailor-made for Rosemary to roam around.
Jill said: “I was on Facebook and saw a video from Copenhagen. A volunteer built a bike and was taking seniors all over the place, and I was watching the looks on those people’s faces and then looked at my mom on the couch, who I would take out in a wheelchair and then said to Wade, is there any way you can make something like this? And he said like he always he does… I think I could make that!”
Wade shared: “So we ended up looking on Craigslist and found an old rusted cargo bike. Took it all apart and Jill painted it, I put new wheels and tires and made all the mechanics right, and then gave it to her for her birthday.”
The family even created a Facebook page for the bike to document the journey of Rosemary. It also allows people to revisit their memories of their own mothers.
These are the kind of stories that reminds us of beauty of life.
